Gravitational Lensing

Gravitational Lensing

Sometimes we might not be meant to view the light emitted from smaller objects in space. A massive object (like a galaxy or blackhole) situated out front of the smaller object bends the light away effectively rendering it unobservable... and sometimes maybe that's for the best?!?

This how I felt about Mondo Generator. In theory it should have been awesome: full albums of the punkier-influenced tracks from QOTSA. But in practice, although it's not bad as such, it was just missing something. Those essential hooks in the songs that feed longevity.

Early Mondo Generator was therefore a 'Type-O Star' for me: one that once it was freed from the gravity of QOTSA, emitted all of its pent-up rage over a short but eventful time period, and eventually petered out. It was one band I was potentially happy to let return to the 'interstellar medium' of rock.

I hadn't followed Nick Oliveri's activities since those first few albums, but I noted whilst researching this blog that a few subsequent jaunts with other bands had occurred, and that Mondo Generator had re-emerged once again in the early 20's. I should probably give it a listen; if only to check for signs of evolution...
